The parliament of Mongolia has just approved the bills to amend the Laws on Legal status of Judges, Prosecution and Anti-Corruption, initiated by the President of Mongolia.

As Chief of Staff to the President Mr. Enkhbold Zandaakhuu explained during the parliamentary debate as well as press conference held in the afternoon of Thursday, March 28, the newly amended Law on the Status of Judges does not grant the National Security Council the power to dismiss judges. The Judicial General Council of Mongolia will still retain their power. The only change is that when the National Security Council issues a recommendation on the temporary suspension of judges, the Judicial General Council must deliberate the recommendation and make their own decision. If it is proven by the court that the judge in question has indeed been involved in corruption, he or she will be dismissed.
