As part of his official visit to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Chairman of the State Great Hural (Parliament) D. Amarbayasgalan worked in the city of Cambridge on March 21, 2025.
Chairman D. Amarbayasgalan met with Professor Brian Sheil, Director of the Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction at the University of Cambridge. Professor Sheil’s research focuses on underground infrastructure efficiency, safety, and the development of new technologies.
During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on current and future collaboration in education, as well as joint projects and initiatives that could be implemented going forward.
Chairman D. Amarbayasgalan also visited the Cavendish Laboratory, where Mongolian national Dr. T. Ganbaatar is conducting postdoctoral research in the fields of natural sciences and engineering. His work involves developing safe and low-dose detectors for X-ray and gamma radiation. His research on stability has set two new world records, leading to his invitation to work at the University of Cambridge.
The Chairman emphasized the importance of scientific development, supporting the work of researchers, and applying research findings in public policy and decision-making.
In addition, Chairman Amarbayasgalan met with Professor John Aston, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research at the University of Cambridge. At the outset, the Chairman noted Mongolia’s commitment to advancing the mining, industrial, and renewable energy sectors and discussed opportunities to expand cooperation and joint research with the University of Cambridge in these areas.
Professor John Aston underlined the importance of expanding the longstanding partnership between the two sides and collaborating in the field of natural sciences. He noted the university's achievements in developing cutting-edge technologies and expressed his pleasure at the prospect of launching new collaborative initiatives.
