Chairman D. Amarbayasgalan Visits the Mongolia and Inner Asia Studies Unit at the University of Cambridge

During his visit to the University of Cambridge, Chairman of the State Great Hural (Parliament) D. Amarbayasgalan became acquainted with the activities of the Mongolia and Inner Asia Studies Unit (MIASU) and met with its researchers.

In 2024, Mongolia and the University of Cambridge launched the “Chinggis Khaan and the Mongol Empire Studies Research Fellowship,” and jointly organized the “Mongolia-Cambridge” forum twice in partnership with MIASU.

Established in 1986, the unit is part of the Department of Social Anthropology and has since produced graduates who continue to share their knowledge and experiences on Mongolia around the world while mentoring the next generation of scholars. The researchers at the unit are currently engaged in four key studies.

These include: “Himalayan Connections: Melting Glaciers, Protected Areas, and Mobile Technologies for Climate Adaptation,” “Meat Trade and National Integration in Mongolia,” and “Transboundary Water Management of Asia’s Major Rivers,” among others. The researchers emphasized the importance of strengthening Mongolian studies through the development of skilled human resources.

Cambridge has long been a hub for academic and scientific advancement, having produced over 120 Nobel laureates and numerous influential figures in politics, science, and literature.

Additionally, the city is a global innovation centre in science and technology, home to leading research institutions and high-tech companies in fields such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and space technology.
