Head of the Mongolia–Sweden Parliamentary Group Holds Virtual Meeting

D. Uuriintuya, MP and Head of the Mongolia–Sweden Parliamentary Group in the State Great Hural (Parliament), held a virtual meeting today (2025.03.28) with Mr. Markus Wiechel, Member of the Riksdag and Head of the Sweden–Mongolia Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Kingdom of Sweden.


MP D. Uuriintuya expressed her pleasure at holding the first meeting between the two parliamentary groups virtually and extended her gratitude to Mr. Markus Wiechel for his leadership in establishing the Sweden–Mongolia group in the Riksdag and for his efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation.

She highlighted that strengthening friendly bilateral ties with Sweden—a Third Neighbor and important partner in Europe for Mongolia—on the basis of mutual trust and shared democratic values such as human rights and rule of law, is of great significance. She also introduced recent developments, noting that Mongolia’s Parliament has expanded to 126 members in accordance with the Constitution.


During the meeting, the parties emphasized the importance of deepening inter-parliamentary relations to further develop bilateral cooperation and particularly stressed enhancing cooperation between the parliamentary secretariats.

Mr. Markus Wiechel, Head of the Sweden–Mongolia Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Riksdag, thanked the Mongolian side for initiating the virtual meeting and highlighted that the friendship group includes representatives from six of the eight parties represented in the Riksdag—demonstrating Sweden’s commitment to strengthening its ties with Mongolia.


He also expressed confidence that the Mongolia–Sweden Parliamentary Group will continue to generate new ideas and initiatives to expand and deepen cooperation between the two countries and their legislatures.


The virtual meeting was attended by MPs Kh. Baasanjargal, G. Luvsanjamts, and S. Erdenebat from the Mongolia–Sweden Parliamentary Group, and Riksdag members Margareta Cederfelt, Rashid Farivar, Björn Söder, and Erik Hellsborn from the Sweden–Mongolia Parliamentary Friendship Group.
