Member of Parliament and Chair of the Standing Committee on Innovation and E-Policy J. Zoljargal met today (February 12, 2025) with Maria Paula Mujica Camirez, an artificial intelligence policy analyst at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
Maria Paula Mujica Camirez stated that UNDP is conducting a foundational study to assess Mongolia’s current level of readiness for artificial intelligence (AI). Initially, the study has been conducted among public servants, with plans to expand to private sector stakeholders, research institutions, academics, and students. She will also participate as a moderator in tomorrow's public discussion on the "National Strategy on Big Data and Artificial Intelligence" and present the preliminary findings of the study.
She further noted that Mongolia has a relatively well-established legal framework for AI development and good internet connectivity, although quality remains a concern. This study, based on UNDP’s AI Readiness Assessment (AILA) methodology, is being conducted in several developing countries for comparative analysis and evaluation.
MP J. Zoljargal emphasized that, due to Mongolia's vast territory, improving internet speed and quality is essential for AI development. He noted that government agencies should work toward transparency and data-sharing while ensuring the protection of personal information. He also stressed that AI should be leveraged to make public services more accessible, efficient, and seamless for citizens. J. Zoljargal highlighted the importance of UNDP's study in shaping Mongolia's AI readiness and expressed strong support for the initiative.
