Parliamentary working group reviews food and pharmaceutical safety in Darkhan-Uul

A parliamentary working group, established under Speaker’s Order No. 101 of 2024, conducted a field visit to Darkhan-Uul Province to assess and improve food and pharmaceutical safety regulations. Headed by MP J. Chinburen, with the participation of MP L. Enkhnasan, the group worked with the Ministry of Food, Agriculture, and Light Industry on February 11.

During the visit, the MPs examined the operations of key sectoral entities, including the Agricultural Commodity Exchange, the Agricultural Corporation, the Credit Guarantee Fund, and the Small and Medium Enterprise Agency. Discussions focused on food hygiene, safety policies, and the implementation of related government decisions.

MP J. Chinburen stressed that ensuring the safety of food for Mongolia’s 3.5 million citizens remains a priority. He underscored the importance of developing livestock and crop production while ensuring that grains and food products are cultivated in healthy soil.

MP L. Enkhnasan, who also chairs the Standing Committee on Social Policy, emphasized the need to strengthen laboratory capacity for food safety assessments. She pointed out that internationally, food and pharmaceutical safety is overseen by dedicated agencies, whereas Mongolia lacks a clear regulatory framework in this area, making it a critical issue to address.

Minister of Food, Agriculture, and Light Industry J. Enkhbayar, along with sectoral leaders, provided insights into the government’s policies and its 2024-2028 agenda. They also updated the working group on the progress of the "Food Revolution" program and the implementation of the "ATAR IV" campaign.
