On this auspicious day, the second day of the first month of spring in the Year of the Blue Snake, known as "Eldev Erdenet", a grand ceremony was held to unveil and consecrate the golden statue of Chinggis Khaan and the Great Sacred White Banner. The event was attended by President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa, Chairman of the State Great Hural Amarbayasgalan Dashzegve, and Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai, along with Members of Parliament, Cabinet Ministers, and distinguished figures from various sectors.
The statue was created through the joint efforts of the Office of the President of Mongolia, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, Tourism, and Youth, the Chinggis Khaan National Museum, and the Bank of Mongolia. The project was aimed at commemorating and preserving the legacy of Chinggis Khaan, advancing historical research, and strengthening the foundations of Mongolia’s statehood traditions.
President U. Khurelsukh delivered the opening remarks, emphasizing the historical significance of the event. He noted that Chinggis Khaan’s contributions extend far beyond Mongolia, as he played a crucial role in shaping world history and laying the foundation for human progress and development. The President highlighted the importance of honoring Chinggis Khaan during Lunar New Year celebrations, and how Mongolians should uphold this tradition as a reflection of their heritage and national identity. He further expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Culture, Sports, Tourism, and Youth, the Bank of Mongolia, the Chinggis Khaan National Museum, and the Republic of Italy’s ArtU Di Gaetano Salmista foundry, as well as all individuals and organizations who contributed to bringing this grand vision to life.
The golden statue of Chinggis Khaan, now enshrined at the "Great Khaan’s Palace" within the Chinggis Khaan National Museum, was created by State Prize laureate and Merited Artist L. Bold. The statue, measuring 700 cm x 630 cm x 750 cm, depicts Chinggis Khaan in his youthful years in 1189, at the time of the founding of the Mongol Empire. The design follows traditional symmetrical aesthetics, portraying the Great Khaan seated with unwavering confidence and a vision for the future, and is coated in gold extracted from Mongolia. The statue rests on a marble base adorned with the Golden Seal of the Mongol Empire, a royal throne, and intricate golden embellishments, symbolizing Mongolia’s sovereignty. The throne incorporates a depiction of Burkhan Khaldun Mountain, while the three-tiered white marble platform represents the past, present, and future, complemented by a tiger-skin motif signifying victory and a felt carpet symbolizing the endurance of statehood.
During the unveiling ceremony, the Great Sacred White Banner and the golden statue of Chinggis Khaan were consecrated with soil from Mongolia’s 13 state-worshipped sacred mountains, as well as gold and other symbolic treasures, in accordance with traditional spiritual and ceremonial rites. The ritual was officiated by Dr. Prof. S. Chuluun, Director of the Chinggis Khaan National Museum and a full member of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences.
The ceremony concluded with President U. Khurelsukh, Chairman D. Amarbayasgalan, and Prime Minister L. Oyun-Erdene paying their respects to the golden statue and the Great Sacred White Banner. Members of Parliament, Cabinet Ministers, and prominent figures from the fields of government, religion, and society also participated in the tribute, marking the occasion as a historic and deeply symbolic event in Mongolia’s state traditions.
