MP E. Batshugar meets with European Commission official Miguel Rocha De Gouveia

MP E. Batshugar met with Miguel Rocha De Gouveia, an expert from the Digital Infrastructure and Space Cooperation Division of the European Commission's Directorate-General for International Partnerships, to discuss satellite communication and internet connectivity projects in Mongolia.

During the meeting, Miguel Rocha De Gouveia presented the "Satellite Communication and Internet Connectivity" project, which the European Union (EU) is implementing in Central Asian countries. He proposed including Mongolia in the EU’s Central Asia Digital Initiative’s satellite connectivity project, which is planned to be co-financed by the European Investment Bank (EIB).

The project aims to expand Mongolia’s internet coverage, particularly in rural areas, by enhancing the core network infrastructure. This would enable telecom operators to extend their services, ultimately providing Mongolia with a secure, internationally connected digital infrastructure. The official emphasized that the network could have wide-ranging applications, including in agricultural management, mining, oil and gas industries, e-learning, and telemedicine.

MP E. Batshugar expressed his support for the project and requested insights into the outcomes of similar initiatives implemented in other countries. He also introduced Mongolia’s legal and policy framework in the sector and explained the State Great Hural’s stance on digital infrastructure development.
