Chairman of the State Great Hural D. Amarbayasgalan received the revised draft of the Law on Freedom of the Press from MP and Minister of Justice and Home Affairs O. Altangerel today (2025.01.24).
The revised draft incorporates the fundamental principles of the current Law on Freedom of the Press while introducing several key provisions. The revisions aim to ensure consistency in the law’s application by defining journalistic terminology in alignment with international trends, domestic legal frameworks, and academic standards in the field.
The draft also outlines the objectives and classifications of media organizations, emphasizing the promotion of responsible journalism and pluralism. Provisions to ensure the transparency of media ownership and safeguard journalists' rights to protect their sources are also included.
Minister O. Altangerel noted that the Ministry of Justice and Home Affairs conducted four rounds of consultations with stakeholders potentially affected by the law to integrate their input into the final draft.
