On the occasion of International Human Rights Day, Chairman of the State Great Hural (Parliament) D. Amarbayasgalan extended his greetings, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts to uphold and protect human rights. Below is the full text of his message:
I extend my warmest greetings to all Mongolian citizens on International Human Rights Day.
The United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948 and has observed December 10 as Human Rights Day annually ever since.
This year, the UN Human Rights Committee has chosen the theme, “Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now,” calling on youth to increase their engagement in advocating for their rights and to take action for their future.
Where human rights are upheld, justice prevails. To establish justice in society, laws must be centered on people, and the legal framework must be citizen-friendly.
To this end, the State Great Hural’s Strategic Plan for 2024–2028 has incorporated the vision of advancing a human-centered approach that upholds human rights and freedoms.
In line with this vision, Mongolia has joined the global campaign encouraging youth to actively participate in safeguarding human rights. Through the “Our Rights, Our Future Trainer Program,” 100 university students are being trained as human rights defenders. These young advocates will disseminate their knowledge, lead outreach initiatives, and contribute to the nationwide discussion of the National Program for Ensuring Human Rights II. This program aims to integrate citizen feedback into a comprehensive policy framework.
Ensuring human rights and freedoms must go beyond declarations and slogans. For Mongolia to become a country where citizens know, demand, and protect their rights, the involvement, contributions, and initiatives of young human rights defenders are crucial.
I urge everyone, especially young people, to take action for their rights and future starting today. Express your opinions, increase your participation in policymaking, and contribute to sustainable development and positive change in society.
Let us strive together to create a better society where every Mongolian citizen knows, protects, and demands their rights, and the state fulfills its duty to respect and safeguard those rights.
