Chairman of the State Great Hural (Parliament), D. Amarbayasgalan, attended and extended greetings at the “National Data Summit” today, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the statistical office in Mongolia.
The origins of Mongolia’s modern statistical service date back to November 11, 1924, when the First State Great Hural’s third resolution established a six-member Department of Statistics under the Ministry of Justice and Internal Affairs in the Mongolian People’s Republic.
Chairman of the National Statistical Office, B. Batdavaa, highlighted that the statistical office, with its century-long legacy, has provided the nation and its public with high-quality quantitative information, ensuring continuity in evidence-based policy-making. He noted that Mongolia’s statistical capacity and development are now on par with other nations worldwide.
Chairman D. Amarbayasgalan emphasized that the quality of legislation passed by the State Great Hural and the government depends on the degree to which it is rooted in scientific evidence, multi-dimensional research, and timely data. Laws based on solid evidence and research are more aligned with citizens’ needs, more sustainable, and of higher quality. Therefore, he underscored that quality statistics are essential, like water and air, for developing long-term and sustainable policies for Mongolia’s growth.
He added that countries around the world are integrating big data and artificial intelligence into governance and decision-making processes, and Mongolia must keep pace with this development. Accordingly, he expressed the State Great Hural’s commitment to strengthening the statistical office as an independent, technology-driven, professional, and skilled institution.
