MP O. Nominchimeg announced today that, under the directive of the Chairman of the State Great Hural (Parliament), a working group has been formed to address rights violations and compensation for Mongolian citizens who were wrongfully convicted and tortured in connection with the assassination case of prominent statesman S. Zorig. This working group will review measures and actions taken by relevant authorities to restore these citizens’ rights and address their damages, ultimately developing recommendations for further action to present to the State Great Hural (Parliament).
The working group, led by MP O. Nominchimeg, includes MPs Kh. Baasanjargal, B. Batbaatar, and P. Sainzorig, along with National Human Rights Commission member B. Enkhbold.
MP O. Nominchimeg highlighted that October 2 marks the 26th anniversary of the tragic assassination of statesman Sanjaasuren Zorig. On this commemorative day, the Hural is giving focused attention to this matter. The working group will evaluate ongoing efforts by relevant authorities to remedy these issues and will prepare a report of recommendations for the State Great Hural (Parliament).
She emphasized that the new 126-member parliament is committed to enacting legislation that upholds human rights and is updated to meet current needs. The Hural’s Human Rights Subcommittee, in cooperation with the Inter-Parliamentary Union, will work to assess the current status of efforts to restore the rights of affected citizens and provide compensation. They will identify the causes of delays in these efforts and consider legal and regulatory reforms to expedite the process.
