MP J. Bayarmaa met today with Kevin Gash, Advisor on Legislative Capacity Strengthening for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
Kevin Gash highlighted USAID’s role in supporting democratic governance, advancing global development, and directing international development and humanitarian efforts. In line with its mission to promote democratic governance, USAID is exploring potential collaboration with Mongolia to strengthen the oversight capacity of the State Great Hural (Parliament).
As part of these efforts, Gash is meeting with MPs from all political parties represented in the new parliament, along with relevant officials. He emphasized that supporting governance and democracy-oriented initiatives is crucial for any nation’s development. Accordingly, USAID is conducting an assessment on how best to support the Hural’s oversight functions.
MP J. Bayarmaa noted that effective oversight is essential to strengthening governance. The previous parliament enacted and implemented the Law on Parliamentary Oversight, but some adjustments are needed to ensure effective oversight hearings. She added that the rule of law is a hallmark of democratic society, and attention is needed to improve legal implementation across all levels. Bayarmaa expressed that USAID’s collaboration in implementing projects to strengthen democratic governance would be welcomed.
