Introducing Climate-Resilient and Economically Viable Livestock Practices

Under Directive No. 42 issued by the Chairman of the State Great Hural (Parliament) in 2024, a 14-member working group has been formed to promote agricultural production policies and oversee the implementation of the “Food Revolution,” “White Gold,” and “New Cooperative” initiatives. Today, MP M. Mandkhai, head of the working group, met with “Champion Farmer” Jeremy Teasdale from Bulgan Province.

Jeremy Teasdale, who settled in Mongolia 31 years ago, began teaching local residents about vegetable cultivation and now manages a mixed farming operation that focuses on livestock and crop production. His farm produces approximately 70,000 tons of meat annually, contributing 77.2 million MNT in tax revenue to the local budget. He shared his insights on the high quality of Mongolian beef, noting its superior taste and unique market potential on the global stage. Teasdale explained that raising a market-ready cow in nine months is much more efficient than the traditional two-year process, emphasizing that cooperative efforts among herders can reduce costs and risks significantly.

Given the overgrazing challenges and environmental pressures, Teasdale proposed innovative approaches to sustainably manage livestock by incorporating smart solutions and converting raw materials into high-value finished products. MP M. Mandkhai expressed her willingness to collaborate, supporting the sharing of Teasdale’s methods for delivering high-quality, traceable, and healthy meat with herders across other provinces and districts.

Mandkhai highlighted that continually educating and empowering cooperative members in the “New Cooperative” movement is vital to the success of this national initiative. By enhancing livestock productivity, promoting agribusiness, and fostering a sustainable agricultural ecosystem, Mongolia can achieve significant progress in rural development.
