The 13th International Seminar on Parliamentary Research Services successfully concluded in Seoul, South Korea, from October 14 to 16, 2024. Director D. Bumdar of the Parliamentary Research and Development Institute, under the Secretariat of the State Great Hural (Parliament), attended the seminar and presented a keynote address on “The Role of Parliamentary Research Services in Mitigating Political Polarization.”
Organized annually by the National Assembly Research Service (NARS) of South Korea since 2010, this seminar serves as a key forum for enhancing the role of parliamentary research in advancing democracy in the Asia-Pacific region. It facilitates the exchange of best practices and solutions to challenges facing parliaments across different countries.
This year’s seminar focused on “Enhancing the Role of Parliamentary Research in Mitigating Political Polarization” and “Globalizing the Analysis of Legislative Impact.”
Participants shared best practices in research and analytical support provided by parliamentary research services in their respective countries and discussed strategies for advancing the development of parliamentary research institutions at both international and regional levels. The seminar concluded with consensus-building discussions on a unified strategy for strengthening these institutions.
