President of Mongolia U. Khurelsukh Receives Courtesy Call from The Hon. Susan Lines, President of the Australian Senate

H.E. Mr. Ukhnaa Khurelsukh, President of Mongolia, received a courtesy call from The Hon. Susan Lines, President of the Australian Senate, who is on an official visit to Mongolia.

President Khurelsukh expressed confidence that the Senate President’s visit will provide a crucial boost to the development of relations and cooperation between Mongolia and Australia. He shared his satisfaction with the recent agreement to elevate relations with Australia—a “third neighbor” with shared democratic values—to the level of a “Comprehensive Partnership.”

He underscored the importance of strengthening cooperation in sectors such as education, mining, defense, and humanitarian efforts, along with enhancing people-to-people relations. President Khurelsukh highlighted that ongoing partnerships in mineral resources, energy, and green transition initiatives are key to future development.

The President noted that over 6,000 young Mongolians, including around 60 students under the “President’s Scholarship 2100” program, are studying in Australia, and that more than 60 Australian enterprises currently operate in Mongolia—clear examples of the growing scope of bilateral relations.

The two sides welcomed the finalized Air Services Agreement and the upcoming talks to establish a Social Protection Agreement, recognizing the importance of these steps amid the increasing people-to-people exchanges.

The Hon. Susan Lines noted the ongoing growth of cooperation across numerous social and economic sectors. She praised Mongolia’s steadfast commitment to increasing female representation in decision-making through recent legislative and policy reforms.

President Lines also expressed her belief that the outcomes of the “Women’s Forum for a Green Future,” held in August under President Khurelsukh’s patronage, will be advanced through the “Women’s Climate Resilience Capacity Building Project,” jointly implemented with the Asia Foundation of Australia, to support climate resilience for women.
