Mr.G.Zandanshatar, the Chairman of the State Great Hural received today /June 12, 2023/ the delegation led by Mr.Ban Ki-moon, the head of the "Ban Ki-moon" Foundation for a Better Future and the 8th Secretary-General of the United Nations.
Mr.Ban Ki-moon has arrived in Mongolia to participate in an international conference "Trans Altai Sustainability Dialogue-Gender Equality and Sustainable Development" jointly organized by the State Great Hural of Mongolia, Stanford University in the United States, "Ban Ki-moon" Foundation and Ewa Women's University in the Republic of Korea.
Mr.G.Zandanshatar, the Chairman of the State Great Hural, mentioned that he met Mr.Ban Ki-moon during the Trans-Pacific Stability Dialogue held in Seoul, South Korea last year and had a fruitful discussion and expressed his pleasure meeting again in Ulaanbaatar under the topic of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development adopted by the United Nations in 2015. He also commended his leadership in ensuring international peace and security and promoting cooperation for the development of the countries of the world and efforts in solving many problems such as climate change, economy, energy and food crisis.
Mongolia is one of the first countries to implement the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the government has approved the long-term development policy document of Mongolia "Vision 2050" and defined its development priorities in line with the Sustainable Development Goals. In his words, the Chairman emphasized that by increasing jobs in accordance with the characteristics and conditions of the country, we aim to reduce poverty, develop a green economy, improve the education system, ensure social justice and gender equality and to reduce the negative impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
During the meeting, the parties discussed and exchanged views on issues such as climate change, combating desertification and supporting the green economy. The parties unanimously expressed that political leadership, including parliamentary participation, will play an important role in the successful implementation of sustainable development goals.
Mongolia is one of the most vulnerable countries to climate change and is taking several measures to mitigate climate change and reduce its negative effects. For example, the national movement "Billion tree", initiated by the President of Mongolia is being successfully implemented. Air pollution has been reduced by up to 50 percent in the past two years by introducing the use of improved fire briquettes in the capital city. In addition, based on the results of research conducted over many years, a decision was reached to plan and to build a new sustainable, green and smart "New Black Horum" capital city that meets world standards.
Mr.Ban Ki-moon pointed out that holding the international conference "Trans-Altai Sustainability Dialogue-Gender Equality and Sustainable Development" in one’s country is important in many ways to support economic and social development and he highly appreciated the leadership and efforts of Mr.G.Zandanshatar, the Chairman of the State Great Hural.
G.Zandanshatar, Chairman of the State Great Hural, said, "We aim to make the trans-Altai sustainability dialogue as a unified platform for discussing, exchanging opinions and expanding cooperation on regional stability issues, while taking into account the vulnerability of the region to climate change and finding a solution for sustainable development. Within the framework of the conference, the multifaceted issues of Altai studies will be discussed, and attention will be paid to the interdependence of cultures, history, traditions, and ethnicities of trans-Altai countries, as well as the expansion of their sustainable cooperation. Also, said that expanding the scale of permanent partnership and cooperation that unites future leaders will be the main result of the "Trans-Altai Sustainability Dialogue" and wished His Excellency Ban Ki-moon good health and success in his endeavors.
