G.Zandanshatar, the Chairman of the State Great Hural of Mongolia, today (June 9, 2023) received representatives led by Mr.Lars Klingbeil, a member of the Bundestag of the Federal Republic of Germany and Co-Leader of the Social Democratic Party of Germany.

At the beginning of the meeting, G. Zandanshatar, the Chairman of the State Great Hural of Mongolia stated that the relations and cooperation established with Germany, the "Third Neighbor" of Mongolia and the main partner of the European Union attracts high importance. The bilateral relations between the two countries have developed in all spheres of society and economy based on common values ​​such as democracy, justice, human rights, freedom, rule of law and free market economy. While commending the rapid development of bi-parliamentary relations and cooperation since 1990, when Mongolia chose the path of democracy and established a permanent parliament, he emphasized the importance of cooperation between legislative bodies in strengthening democracy and protecting democratic values.

Also, G.Zandanshatar, the Chairman of the State Great Hural of Mongolia, reaffirmed his invitation to Mrs.B.Bas, the President of the Bundestag of Germany, to visit Mongolia.

Chairman of the State Great Hural expressed his gratitude to the Friedrich-Ebert Foundation for consistently supported the political, economic, and social democratic changes and transitions in Mongolia that began in the early 1990s and successfully worked in the field of improving the political participation of citizens, especially supporting civil society organizations, and supporting the participation of women and youth. The the State Great Hural initiated legal reforms to strengthen democracy and develop parliamentary system. Amendments to the Constitution were approved. For the successful implementation of the change, many laws, such as the Law on the State Great Hural, the Procedures of the State Great Hural sessions and the Law on Elections, etc., need to be amended. He mentioned as the regularizing meetings, trainings and discussions to exchange experiences between offices of the legislative bodies are therefore important.

Lars Klingbeil, a member of the Bundestag of the Federal Republic of Germany and Co-Leader of the Social Democratic Party of Germany, noted that Mongolia's State Great Hural is actively working to strengthen parliamentary democracy and said that he is confident that this visit will promote the strengthening of relations between the two countries, including bi-parliamentary cooperation.

He expressed his satisfaction with the development of relations between the two countries in all fields, and said that there is a great opportunity to intensify relations and cooperation in the fields of energy, security, science and economy. In particular, he said, it is possible to work together in the areas of stimulating communication between young people, strengthening parliamentary democracy, ensuring the transparency of the parliament and incorporating public opinion into the decision-making process.

The representatives led by Mr. Lars Klingbeil expressed their support for the proposal of the G.Zandanshatar, the Chairman of the State Great Hural of Mongolia, to hold a joint discussion and forum in September on issues such as ensuring the transparency of the parliament, strengthening democracy and organizing open hearings.
