Mrs. L. Ulziisaikhan, the Secretary General of the State Great Hural of Mongolia has paid a working visit to the Lao People's Democratic Republic at the invitation of Mrs.Pingkham Lasasimma, member and the Secretary General of the Lao National Assembly. The visit began with an official meeting with Secretary General Mrs. Pingkham Lasasimma on February 24, 2023.

At the beginning of the meeting, Mrs. Pingkham Lasasimma emphasized the traditional friendly relations between the National Assembly of Lao PDR and the State Great Hural of Mongolia, and expressed her satisfaction with the fact that the relations and cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries have been actively developed in the past, and the frequency of mutual visits and meetings at the level of the Speaker of the Parliament, members, and the Secretariats has been maintained.

Mrs. Pingkham Lasasimma has also extended her gratitude to the leadership of the State Great Hural for its support to the Lao side’s proposal to restore the tradition of inter-parliamentary cooperation and to renew the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between the Parliament Secretariats during the online meeting between H.E.Mr.G. Zandanshatar, Chairman of the State Great Hural of Mongolia and H.E.Dr. Xaysomphone Phomvihane, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Lao PDR in November 2022. 

Secretary General L.Ulziisaikhan thanked Mrs. Pingkham Lasasimma for her warm hospitality. Furthermore, she expressed her satisfaction with the long-term friendly and close relations between the Secretariat of the State Great Hural of Mongolia and the Secretariat of the Lao National Assembly, and spoke that the two sides have exchanged delegations, shared experiences, mutually supported each other and worked together in the past. We aim to expand and strengthen our relations and cooperation to a new stage on the basis of the solid foundation of traditional relations, she said. 

Mrs. Ulziisaikhan also expressed her confidence that the renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between the two Secretariats will be an important event that will strengthen the legal framework of relations and cooperation, and invited Mrs. Pingkham Lasasimma to visit Mongolia at her convenience.

After the bilateral meeting, the Secretary Generals have signed  Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between the Secretariat of the State Great Hural of Mongolia and the Secretariat of the National Assembly of the Lao PDR, which will be effective from 2023 to 2026. 

As it is stated in the MoU, the parties have agreed to send delegations in order to get acquainted with the legislative and oversight functioning of the parliament and the Secretariat activities of providing professional and methodological assistance to the parliamentary work, and to exchange experiences.  

After the signing ceremony of the MoU, the Secretary General L.Ulziisaikhan, has paid courtesy call to H.E.Mrs.Sounthone Xayachack, Deputy Speaker of the Lao National Assembly. During the meeting, the parties have exchanged their views on the cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries and the further steps to be implemented in this sphere.

H.E.J. Byambasuren, Ambassador of Mongolia to the Lao PDR and other officials participated in the meetings.
