The plenary of the virtual 142nd Assembly of the Inter Parliamentary Union’s (IPU) which unites the parliaments of the world has begun today (May 26, 2021). Mr. Duarte Pacheco, the IPU president, opened the plenary with a keynote address on "Overcoming the pandemic today and building a better tomorrow: the role of parliaments."
Mr. Zandanshatar Gombojav, Chairman of the State Great Hural (Parliament) of Mongolia, presented his address to the plenary of the 142nd IPU Assembly.

He said “I am pleased that the 142nd IPU Assembly is debating the important issue of overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic and building a better tomorrow as it has become an issue that concerns both the solidarity and prosperity of humanity. We see that the countries need to join their efforts to overcome any menaces, not only the COVID-19 but also others. It is therefore the leadership that borne by parliaments and parliamentarians on these commitments will be our extraordinary responsibility as legislators before the humanity”.
He continued “Despite facing the threat of a pandemic like many others, Mongolia is effectively overcoming the challenges owing to the supports rendered by good partner countries and international organizations. As of May 20, we have fully vaccinated more than 50 percent of our target population”.
Chairman also noted as “I am convinced that the good time of the world overcoming the threat of the pandemic and returning to the normality has come closer. Therefore, it is important to evaluate the lessons we learned and establish our future goals. Although there is a lot to be said about what needs to be done to prevent from deteriorating under any threats, I would like to stress on single issue. That is to build a healthy society that ensures equality to its citizens as much as possible”.
He concluded his address as “We can achieve this by strengthening political, economic and social justice. The goals of ensuring equality are the MOST EFFECTIVE VACCINES for building a better society and successfully overcoming any threats”. He then called all parliaments to unite under the IPU mission to create a world in where every citizen is ensured with equality.
Mrs. B.Saranchimeg, a member of the State Great Hural and a member of the Bureau of the IPU Standing Committee on Democracy and Human Rights, has also participated in this virtual plenary of the 142nd Assembly of the IPU.
Mrs. B.Saranchimeg MP, expressed her gratitude to the IPU President, Secretary General and its Secretariat for actively contributing to the development of inter-parliamentary relations and cooperation and for successfully organizing the Assembly’s plenary for the first time full digital format and wished every success to the Assembly s activities.
Today's plenary meeting was attended by more than 240 delegates from parliaments around the world and have exchanged their opinions on the main theme of the Assembly.
