The Presidential Election of Mongolia is scheduled for June 9, 2021


At the plenary session of the State Great Hural (Parliament)of Mongolia held today on January 20, 2021, the first issue discussed andratified was the State Great Hural Resolution on setting the date for the 2021 PresidentialElection.

The issue was reviewed yesterday at the Standing Committeemeeting of State Structures and during the meeting Committee Chair MPL.Enkh-Amgalan introduced that it was estimated about 28 billion MNT (approx. 9.8 million USD) would beneeded to hold the Presidential election on its own, and about 1 billion MNTwill be needed for the by-elections in the 28th parliamentary constituency.Therefore, in order to save costs, the by-elections of the State Great Hural wouldbe held together with the regular 2021 Presidential election.

According to the draft resolution, based on Article 25.1.3of the Constitution of Mongolia and Article 8.1 and 8.2 of the Law onPresidential Elections of Mongolia, the first round of voting for the Presidentof Mongolia is scheduled for June 9, 2021.

Consequently, the Resolution was approved by 63.1 percent ofparliamentarians present at the plenary session.
